UPDATE: Brunswick Boy Shot; In Critical Condition

Brunswick, GA I The Islander A 12-year-old Brunswick boy shot another boy in the head with a BB gun about 1:20 Monday afternoon in the 1000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, leaving the child in critical condition at a Jacksonville hospital, according to Brunswick police. The victim, also 12 years old, was flown by helicopter to UF Health Shands Hospital. The boy remained in critical condition Tuesday with the BB lodged in his temple.

The child who allegedly shot him was taken to the youth detention center in Waycross and charged with aggravated assault. The two boys know each other and were playing with other children at a residence in the 1000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and adults were present. Police believe the boy fired the gun intentionally, but are trying to determine if he was aware that it was loaded. While state law does not prohibit juveniles from having BB guns, police say parents should instruct them on gun safety and monitor their use.
